The new Rotamat coaters – for handling larger and smaller work pieces
Walther Trowal GmbH & Co. KG
At the PaintExpo 2026 exhibition Walther Trowal will introduce two new Rotamat coaters: (1) The Rotamat R 60 for insulation coating of particularly small electronic components and (2) the new R 100 for large, flat sealing components used in electric vehicles. Both machines were specifically designed for handling work pieces, which, to date, were not suitable for mechanical drum coating.
For the insulation coating of particularly small electronic components, for example, magnetic cores with sizes (by volume) down to one cubic millimeter – Walther Trowal equipped the Rotamat R 60 with a uniquely shaped rotary drum. Specially designed ribs and deflectors on the inside of the rotary ensure that the work pieces receive an absolutely homogeneous coating – essential for the insulation on these components to function properly. Despite their extremely small size the individual work pieces do not stick to each other. Upon completion of the coating process they are discharged from the machine as single pieces.
For coating of large, flat sealing components made from elastomers Walther Trowal will display the Rotamat R 100. Such sealing elements are frequently used in electrical vehicles, for example, for insulating the individual cells in battery packs and their recycling cooling systems with heat exchangers. They are also utilized in fuel cells and motors. The coating material can be anti-friction or colored lacquers.
The new R 100 Rotamat coater has a usable volume of 160 liters. In a single batch it can treat about 150 flat sealing components with diameters of up to 350 mm or 50,000 O-rings … roughly three times as many as its predecessor model R 85.
„To date the Rotamat coaters were predominantly used for coating smaller components, for example, O-rings. With the new R 100 we took a completely different approach: The R 100 is the first of its kind that allows the manufacturers of significantly larger sealing components to coat their products fully automatically with a highly cost-efficient process,“ explains Frank Siegel, sales manager for „Coating Technology“ at Walther Trowal.
The new R 100 Rotamat is also suitable for decorative coating of plastic components made from ABS or polyethylene, also for thin-walled metal rings with diameters of up to 300 mm. The latter, used as shaft seal rings, are treated with a bonding agent, before an elastomer coating is applied.
