Driving into Karlsruhe city centre: Information on the low emission zone
The city of Karlsruhe has adopted an air pollution control and action plan to reduce particulate matter pollution in accordance with European and federal regulations. This stipulates that from 1 January 2009 only motor vehicles with modern exhaust technology are allowed to drive on roads in the precisely defined low emission zone. These vehicles must have a so-called emissions sticker attached to the windscreen. Anyone driving a car without a sticker may have to pay a fine of €63.50 and receive a penalty point in the driving offence register in Flensburg. This regulation affects the Congress Centre (Stadthalle, Schwarzwaldhalle, Konzerthaus, Gartenhalle and Festplatz) and the Europahalle. The Karlsruhe exhibition site is outside of the low emissions zone and is therefore not governed by these regulations. Should you need to drive into the low emission zone, we suggest buying a sticker at one of the issuing offices (vehicle registration authority, TÜV, DEKRA, GTÜ, AUKFZ workshops, citizens' services). You will need to show your vehicle registration documents.
Arrival by Train and Public Transport
Karlsruhe is a hub for ICE (InterCity Express), InterCity, EuroCity and InterRegio connections and lies directly on the ICE route from Hamburg to Basel via Frankfurt. From the main station, take line 3 in the direction of Heide or line 4 towards Waldstadt to the Europaplatz stop, change there to the S2 towards Rheinstetten and get off at the Messe/Leichtsandstraße stop. From the city centre, you can take the S2 towards Rheinstetten all the way to the Messe/Leichsandstraße stop. Tickets from tariff zone 100 are valid as far as the Messe/Leichtsandstraße stop during events and on trade fair days.
