Interview with Roman Mlakar
Roman Mlakar - Manager New Products & Intellectual Property - Gema Switzerland GmbH in interview.
In your opinion, what are currently the biggest challenges for painting companies and job-shop coaters?
The available equipment offers many possibilities and solutions to control coating quality, costs (coating color change time, waste powder) and production transparency. Only a fraction of it is needed. This is based on the one hand to the lack of qualification or understanding of the coating process and on the other hand to the lack of time (sometimes also the will) to determine, understand and apply the technologies.
From your standpoint, what are the best ways to optimize coating processes?
Optimisation means guaranteeing the necessary coating quality, from both an economic and a functional point of view.
New brooms sweep well, i.e. the deterioration of the coating quality must be counteracted by preventive maintenance measures or automation technologies.
What trends are emerging in your area of industrial painting technology?
Companies where the budget does not allow automation solutions expect durable and reliable equipment and are willing to invest in these features. Large series manufacturers, on the other hand, rely on automation technologies to achieve and maintain quality requirements.
What developments/solutions does your company offer for these trends?
Gema remains true to its philosophy and continues to focus on rugged devices equipped with innovative technologies for professional use in our industry. Examples are the new series of hand tools or the innovative All-in-One powder supply.
We have been dealing with automation solutions for a long time and are constantly expanding our product portfolio. Be it for coating transparency in small systems using E-App or for cabin systems using our dynamic contour recognition, which automatically adapts each individual coating gun to the contour of the coating object. In addition to the greatly simplified operation, the new system control also offers the use of a wear part management system, a graphic display of production data such as energy consumption measurement and the possibility of powder consumption calculation. All these data can also be exported for further graphical processing or implementation in higher-level systems.
What significance does PaintExpo have for your company?
PaintExpo is our most important trade fair in Europe and a trend barometer for innovations in surface technology. The fair offers us the ideal platform to present our innovations and technologies to our target group.
In recent years, the value of the fair for us has once again increased, as the proportion of international trade visitors is constantly growing.
